How To Take Control Of Your Life (And Emotions)
“I’m exhausted.”
“Seriously, I’m just so tired.”
I’ve heard these statements, or some version of them, so many times over the last few years.
And, I’ve said these words.
I’ve felt them in my core and there have been times it’s been so hard to move forward.
As you may know, I have taken the last two weeks off from work to breathe and reassess my life, the things in it, and what I want to create next.
And one of the biggest things I’ve been focused on is why I feel so physically and emotionally exhausted.
As I sat down this morning to meditate, the answer came through loud and clear…
“because the world is a shit show and it leaves you feeling helpless and when you feel helpless, you also don’t feel safe.”
Boom! That’s it.
Let’s be honest… There’s a LOT going on in the world that you can’t control.
It seems like every day is another shock, tragedy, or event you never saw coming.
And it’s not going away anytime soon.
In fact, this might just be our new normal.
I know… I am a barrel of sunshine today!
So, knowing that, what can we do?
And the answer, I’m finding, is to control what you can, let go of what you can’t, and remember who the f*ck you are.
You see, this isn’t my first time at the shit show rodeo. It’s not yours either.
We’ve been through some stuff, me and you. Stuff we never thought we would get through.
And yet… here we are. Still standing.
So on this beautiful day, I encourage you to grab a sheet of paper and draw two vertical lines to create three columns.
In the first column, list of all the things that poke you. That leave you feeling tired. Exhausted.
They could be things related to your work, your family, your health, politics, the economy, your relationships, and anything else that gives you that “ugh… not today, Linda” feeling.
In the second column, write next to each of those things you listed in step one what you simply can not control about it.
For example, you can’t control what the media is going to report on.
You can’t control the economy and you can’t control other people.
Now take a deep breath and remember who you are.
Remember what you’ve been through and how you came out on the other side – stronger, smarter, and ready for whatever life threw at you next.
Remember how brave you are and how strong you are. Know you’ve got this and if you ever feel you don’t, you have people around you who can help.
Once you feel good about who you are, let’s complete this exercise.
In the third column, write down what you can choose to control about each of the things you wrote down that poke you.
This will give you clarity, courage, and confidence to take back control of your life and your emotions. It will give you a map forward.
Remember, you were so much stronger than you think you are.
I love your face!
Cynthia
