How Your Identity Is Key To Getting Everything You Want
My week was full!
I flew to Portland and somehow, between LAX and PDX, I ended up with a weird, hot, red rash all over my face.
You can’t make it up.
I never figured out what caused it but thanks to some very cool people on Instagram, I recovered in just a couple of days.
But it got me to thinking…
Our FACE is the first thing people see, so we tend to put a lot of emphasis on that.
But the thing I’ve been thinking a LOT about lately is who we are on the INSIDE.
More specifically… who we’re CHOOSING to be.
Or… your identity.
Your identity is the key to creating everything you want in your life.
Read that again.
Look… I’ve been a coach for 18 years now and I’ve seen it all.
Now, what I know for sure is that your IDENTITY determines your income, the depth of your relationships, the home you live in…. quite literally, everything.
Your identity is constructed by the stories you tell yourself.
I’m not good at anything.
The way I was raised limits me.
Life isn’t fair.
I’m not lucky like other people.
I never make the right decisions in life.
I’m damaged goods.
Enough already.
These stories are causing you to create an identity that doesn’t feel good enough. One that’s limited.
And one that’s keeping you stuck right where you are instead of helping you live your dream life.
BUT if you choose a different identity… yep, just DECIDE to be someone else… you can radically change your life.
You can break habits without willpower. You can be unstoppable.
So… how do you create a new identity?
1. Design your dream life. Don’t overthink this. Simply focus on every area of your life – career, relationships, hobbies, etc. and get very clear on what you want. You can always edit this. Don’t wait for it to be “perfect”.
2. Now, think about who you would have to BE to live that life. Not what you would have to DO but rather who you would need to BE. Do you need to be more patient, understanding, persistent? Do you need to BE a person who works out daily? A person who gets up early on their side hustle? A person who is confident enough to take the next right step?
3. Once you know who you need to BE, be that person daily. Constantly ask yourself… “Is the thing I’m about to do helping me become the person I want to be?” If not, change it immediately.
If you start to BE the person you want, you’re living from the future instead of trying to change who you’ve been in the past.
And that’s SO much easier.
By changing my identity I’ve…
… started meditating regularly
… increased my income over and over again
… became a writer and published 2 best-sellers
… been on TV shows sharing my expertise
… married the man of my dreams
And so much more.
So, really take it to heart. Start creating your SELF right now with this exercise!
You’ve got this and you deserve it all.
