How SELF Made People Deal with Change
This morning, I was voice texting my friend, Anne, about how full life is right now and how many things are shifting all at once and blah, blah, blah (cue the trauma and drama) and you know what she said?
She said, “what a blessing it is that we get to go through this.”
*record scratch*
Excuse me, ma’am. What did you say?
But wait there’s more…
She said, “I just feel so grateful for it.”
Well… shit.
And THEN… she sent me a meme which is so powerful I’m putting it in today’s blog.
It will serve you MUCH more than a picture of my face.
I’m not gonna lie…
She stopped me right in my tracks (and that doesn’t happen often).
But because I surround myself with people who keep it real, I hear what they say.
I started thinking about everything I’ve learned and the SELF that has been created from going through big changes.
These shifts (although not always a frolic on the beach with a cold glass of champs) have served me in such powerful ways.
The lessons I learned from going through them changed my life.
And for that, I’m grateful.
So yes, Anne (Hi! Cause I know you read these!!!) it IS such a blessing that we get to go through this!
It really, really is!
IF… (stay with me) we can remember to see them that way.
And that’s what today’s blog is about.
It’s about taking the shifts and changes in our life and being grateful for the lessons they bring and the opportunities they give us to become SELF Made.
So let’s get into it shall we?
Love you and grateful we have each other to go through these things with!
How SELF Made People Shift Their Identity
As you embrace the process of becoming SELF Made, it’s important to shift your identity from…
“I’m the kind of person who resists changes and struggles to deal with it.”
To…
“I’m the kind of person who sees change as a blessing and an opportunity to choose how I respond to it and who I be / become in the process.”
By shifting the narrative, you control the story. You take back your power and become the person who has GOT THIS, no matter what life throws at you, and keep walking like… “Is that it? No problem.”
You can’t control the things that happen to you but you can always control how YOU respond to them.
So, allow change and shifts in your life to be an opportunity to become SELF Made.
How is it happening FOR you?
How can you stay in control – of the narrative and yourSELF?
And remember… you don’t have to. You can wallow and struggle. That’s ok too. #nojudging
The choice, as always, is yours.
What Determines If You Become SELF Made…Or Not
Ok let’s turn this idea of taking the shifts and changes in our life and being grateful for the lessons they bring and the opportunities they give us to focus on our cha-ching, shall we?
Here’s the thing… if you have a business – any kind of business – things will go wrong.
It’s not a matter of IF, it’s WHEN.
Now, when that happens, you have three choices:
- Curl up into a ball and tell yourself you weren’t cut out for this whole business thing and you should just give it up like… now.
- Look at the data, understand what worked and what didn’t, and tweak for the next time. NBD
- Curl up into a ball and cry a bit (yep, just get it alllll out) and then proceed with option #2.
Something tells me you’re not gonna take choice #1. Because you ain’t going out like that. You’re a badass and you know you’re meant for greatness.
Now, #2 is a solid path forward if this isn’t your first time at the rodeo and you’ve had things not go to plan before (or if you’re a psychopath – either is fine).
Most likely, some version of #3 is gonna be the sweet spot.
You thrash around, feel bad for yourSELF, try to blame someone else for what happened (or is that just me?), and then finally come around (fiiinnnnneeeeee) and see that the blame lies with you because if you take responsibility for it, you can change it for the next time.
Which option will YOU choose?
Here are some practical ways you can put that to use…
If no one is buying your products, are you selling the right solution to their problem.
You see, most people focus on the wrong problem. They try to sell a time management course when productivity is the problem. So? People don’t buy.
Or perhaps you’re trying to sell a confidence course when what your customer REALLY wants is to get a date or to clear up their skin. Make sense?
How do you know what they want? Ask yourself… what are they searching on when they go to Google?
Because very few people are searching for “time management”. They want “better productivity” or “how to focus” or “how to get more done”.
Sell what your customer wants.
If no one is opening your emails, are you giving them a reason to?
Email subjects are the most important part of the email.
Why? Because if it’s trash, no one will open them. I mean…
So, write subject lines that engage people, that make them curious.
If you’re subject lines look like this:
- Newsletter #102
- Hey! Read this!
- Email #48573 from us
- Are you still there?
- It’s ME!!!! How ARE YOU?????!!!!!
No one is gonna open them. Try it if you don’t believe me.
Instead… try using these frameworks:
- How I really [achieved result]
- Improve your [Skills] – in just 10 minutes.
- My EXACT process for [area of expertise]
- The truth about Y
- I didn’t know this [TIME] years ago
Whether the issue is sales, messaging, or something else entirely, change and shifts in business is inevitable.
It’s how you respond that determines if you become SELF Made… or not.
