The Power of Your Inner Circle: Are You Choosing Wisely?
I walked over to introduce myself.
Coming to a stop in front of him, I smiled and said, “Hi, I’m Cynthia.”
“Hey, Cynthia,” he said. “I’m Jeff.”
“Well hey there, Jeff! What do you do?”
Without even a moment’s hesitation, he responded, “I make champions.”
Mic. Drop.
The man I had walked up to on that fateful day over 10 years ago was Dr. Jeff Spencer.
And he does just what he says… he makes champions.
You see, when Jeff was just 7 years old, he decided he would be an Olympic cyclist.
At 21, he competed in the Summer Olympics in Munich, Germany.
Realizing he loved coaching others just as much as he liked competing himself, he went on to coach top performers like Usher, Tiger Woods, Bono from U2, and many more.
Jeff is a legend and one of the best coaches I’ve ever known.
He inspired ME to want to “make champions” through the Institute of Transformational Nutrition and The Modern Life Coach School.
And if you know our coaches, you’ll know that I’m doing just that.
This week Zak and I hosted Jeff for dinner.
It was the first time he had met Rain after all the years I’ve known him. It was so special.
You see… I love being around people doing big things and soaking up their wisdom. Being inspired by them.
I want my daughter to be around people like this.
I love noticing how they do life. How they think. How they be.
I pay attention when they share how they make decisions and what factors they weigh to do so.
So, today’s secret is this… The people you surround yourself with will either lift you up or drag you down.
You’ve probably heard the quote, “You’re the average of the 5 people you spend the most time with.”
I would argue that you’re the average of ALL the people you spend time with but… semantics.
What I know is this…
If I’m the smartest or wealthiest person in the room, I am in the wrong room.
Last week I was on a yacht, surrounded by multi-millionaires who have made their mark on the world and have the bank accounts to show for it.
And if you think I wasn’t absorbing everything they said, you would be very wrong.
As soon as I left, I was immediately thinking about how I wanted to shape the next few years of my life.
I’m already putting things in place to do so.
I’m thinking bigger. Planning bigger. And now I’ll embrace the Identity of my future self and act accordingly.
So, what about you, dear friend?
Who are YOU surrounding yourself with?
I invite you to take some time today and ask yourself if the people you are surrounding yourself with are lifting you up or holding you down.
And then act accordingly.
