How to Use Transformational Nutrition to Stay Healthy and Wealthy

I have to tell you this story…

This week I took Rain to open a bank account.

Cynthia Garcia shares how she practices Transformational Nutrition to stay healthy and wealthy.

I think it’s important for her to start learning about making and managing money now so… bank account.

A wonderful woman named Maria greeted us and got down to business.

Things were going smoothly.

We chatted about her children, her career at the bank (38 years!), and Rain’s excitement over this new level of responsibility.

And then Maria said…

“Come back and see me when you’re ready for your credit card…”

And then she stopped.

She paused for a moment and then said to Rain…

“I was going to say come and see me when you turn 18 and you’re ready for a credit card but I won’t be here.”

My first thought was… she’s retiring! She’s been here 38 years and is making plans to call it a day.

But that wasn’t what Maria meant.

She could tell we were confused so she clarified, “I’ve had diabetes for 20 years and now I have kidney failure. So, I won’t be here much longer. My last day of work is next week.”

I saw the sadness on her face. The heaviness in her eyes.

My heart broke for her and the children she had just been telling me about.

And in that moment, I was reminded (as we all are) just how short life is.

And how important it is to take care of yourSELF while you’re still around.

I believe that when you get messages like this that make you think, it’s important to pass them along.

So that’s what I’ll do today.

I’ll share my top tips on caring for yourSELF like you mean it so you have many long, healthy, vibrant years to make all your dreams come true.

Transformational Nutrition as SELF Care

I don’t have to tell you that health and wellness are a critical part of becoming SELF Made.

As you likely already know, I’m a Certified Clinical Nutritionist and a National Board Certified Health & Wellness Coach.

I founded the Institute of Transformational Nutrition after my own health hit rock bottom and almost cost me my life.

But you don’t have to get to that point.

You can be healthy AND wealthy.

Here’s how I do it…

I practice Transformational Nutrition.

Transformational Nutrition is the scientific study of health and human wellness in multiple areas including physical nutrition, mental nutrition, and spiritual nutrition.

In a nutshell…

  • Transformational Nutrition is a simple answer to outdated wellness trends and impossible nutrition standards.
  • It focuses on the fact that you are fed by more than what’s on your plate.
  • It gives people an all-in-one way to have a fulfilled life by focusing on creating simple habits and practices in three areas of our lives.

Every day, I make sure I do at least one thing in each of those areas of health.

Here’s are some of the things I choose from:

Physical

  • Workout – Right now I workout 5-6 days a week. I rotate between cardio and weight training and I take walks in my neighborhood almost daily.
  • Eat clean – I am super picky about my food. I focus on organic, whole foods and avoid fast food, and overly processed foods. I’m a big fan of clean meats like beef, chicken, and fish and simple veggies and greens. I cook with olive oil and enjoy healthy fasts like nuts and avocado. I keep it simple.
  • Drink in moderation – You know I love me a good glass of champs or Dry Farm Wines but I refuse to drink cheap alcohol because of the damage it does. And I limit my intake. I might enjoy 2 – 4 drinks a week and never more than two drinks at a time.
  • Supplement – This varies but right now I’m taking Vitamin D and B complex, NAD, magnesium, NAC, and OptiFiber Lean. These are supplements only, meaning I focus on getting as many nutrients as I can from food.

I don’t eat protein bars or drink protein shakes but I will toss some collagen in my morning coffee.

And I love Blueprint products by Bryan Johnson. I use their Longevity Mix, Snake Oil (it’s a thing), and their Blueberry Nut mix (put this in Greek yogurt and it’s delish! Plus, it’s packed with protein and healthy fats for amazing skin!).

Finally, I carry Paleo Valley beef sticks with me everywhere and snack on them throughout the day.

Mental

  • SELF Made Meditation – I do this daily and I never compromise. It sets me up for success and calms my mind so I think clearly, take action, and keep moving toward my Future Self. It’s in my SELF Made Membership if you wanna grab it.
  • Read – I love to dive into a good book to relax and let go. I have to be careful I’m not using this as a way to numb so I only do it intentionally and on purpose.
  • Eat brain nourishing foods – Yes, food falls here too. Enjoying nutrient-dense foods like leafy greens, nuts, seeds, fatty fish, and whole grains supports my brain function. Omega-3 fatty acids, antioxidants, and vitamins (B12, D, and folate) help reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression – both things I’ve dealt with since birth.
  • Thinking Time – I make it a point to sit and do nothing several times a week if not daily. This white space allows my mind time to let to of all the things and just relax. It’s time to process things I don’t get to process while going through my day.
  • Sleep – This is critical. I’m in bed by 10 and up by 5 so. My next goal is in bed by 9.

Spiritual

  • Reconnect with nature – I love hiking and we try to go at least a couple of days a week. Plus, daily walks in my neighborhood and just sitting on the grass, enjoying the view, is a spiritual practice for me.
  • Vexting – I vext (that’s voice text for the uninitiated) my friend Anne usually once a day on average. Connecting with her is amazing and feeds my spirit so deeply.
  • Practice gratitude – I practice gratitude always in all ways. I feel so very lucky to live the life I live. To be able to show up and talk with you every week. I never take it for granted.
